Know your impact – Travel the world with environmental consciousness
Hi everyone! I’m Emma
I am in love with experiencing the world, engaging with others, and doing all I can to conserve this beautiful planet and it’s precious natural resources. As a child, I was so lucky to grow up next to the Boise River in Idaho and spent much of my time playing in the lakes and rivers of the Rocky Mountains. It wasn’t until I moved to the dry desert southwest that I realized how precious freshwater is. It was then that I decided to dedicate my life to freshwater management and environmental conservation.
We are currently experiencing a severe Global Water Crisis due to increased demand on freshwater resources and climate change, with extreme droughts in some areas and excessive flooding in others. It has become very apparent how important environmental sustainability and freshwater management has become on a global scale. As a freshwater scientist and avid traveller, I have witnessed the impact of the Global Water Crisis on many communities and the different environmental issues each community faces.
Travellers oftentimes exacerbate environmental issues, nearly always unintentionally. It is essential for us to intentionally and actively reduce our water consumption and educate ourselves on the environmental issues of the world, and our own community.
Tag along with me as I travel the world and share my successes, failures, learning opportunities, and my growing understanding of what environmental conservation means to different communities worldwide.
